    Trusts
Trusts are not just for the ultra-wealthy. During your lifetime, with Wilber as your trustee, a trust can serve as an excellent vehicle for the management of your assets. A living trust can provide you with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that even in the event of catastrophic illness or other disability, your bills will be paid, and your general financial affairs carried on through the supervision of our personal trust experts. A living trust is a flexible estate planning instrument that can be used to minimize estate taxes and maximize the management of assets that pass to younger generations. A trust is an effective tool for planning gifts to charity that allow a present or future benefit to you or your family. Trusts created under your Will can achieve many of the same benefits for your surviving spouse or other younger beneficiaries.

    Investment Management
Many people prefer to ease into a long-term relationship with Wilber through an Investment Management account or Custodian account relationship. Under either service, our personal trust and investment experts provide the same professional, personal attention to the management and safekeeping of your assets as is given to our trust relationships.

As your investment manager, we will safekeep your securities, collect and disburse interest and dividend income pursuant to your instructions, and recommend stock and bond strategies as may be appropriate to your objectives and risk tolerances. Periodic transaction statements provide current market valuations of your portfolio and itemize daily activity in your account.

A Custodian account offers the same asset safekeeping and income collection/disbursement activities of an Investment Management account, however you direct the investment strategies and trading activity of the portfolio.

    Estate Settlement
The job of the Executor or Personal Representative you name under your Will generally requires someone with acute accounting skills and knowledge of the most current estate and income tax rules and regulations; someone with the investment expertise to manage a portfolio of stocks, bonds, mutual finds and any other investments that you’ve accumulated during your lifetime; someone with the skills and knowledge necessary to understand the various rules regulating SEPs, IRA Rollovers, 401Ks, defined benefit or defined contribution plans, deferred compensation; someone with the ability to ensure the family business continues to operate; someone with the experience and maturity to listen while your family grieves, but maintaining the neutrality of a referee to ensure your wishes are accomplished. This is an enormous responsibility to burden a family member with. Our estate settlement professionals have more than 75 years experience available to you. And, since New York State defines the rate of payment by statute, we receive no more for this service than the family member you might now be considering.

    Estate Planning
Is your last Will dated prior to 2000? Has your family grown from the birth of a child or grandchild since your Will was written? Have you retired? Has a family member passed away? Have you moved recently or are you contemplating a move in the near future? If your answers are yes to any of these questions, it is possible that your current estate plan is outdated and needs to be reviewed. The estate planning experts in our Trust & Investment Center can help you determine whether your current plan is adequate in serving your family’s changing size and status and ensuring that your plans maximize tax saving opportunities.
